Today we decided to test ChatGPT’s knowledge of business positioning in the metaverse. Considering the fact that the AI is only supposed to have knowledge of the internet from 2021 and earlier, we were curious what kind of advice it could offer us.   

Admittedly, while it’s answers were somewhat basic and safe, the information is solid and a business owner could easily use the following bullet points to build off of, and dig deeper on the topic. 

Here was the prompt: “What are some steps I can take to strategically position my business in the metaverse?” 
We were a little short on time so we also asked it to suggest a headline and a subheadline, based on if this info were to be written as a blog post. 

Here's what it had to say: 

Strategically positioning your business in the metaverse involves a combination of traditional business strategies and novel approaches specific to the digital realm. Here are some steps you can take: 


  • Understand the Metaverse: The first step in positioning your business in the metaverse is understanding what it is and how it functions. The metaverse is essentially a virtual reality space where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users. It's an immersive 3D internet experience where users can go online not just to gather information, but to live, work, and play. 

  • Identify your Target Audience: Just like in any other business, understanding your target audience is crucial. Who are they? What are their online behaviors? How do they interact with the metaverse? What needs and wants can your business serve in the metaverse? 

  • Develop a Unique Value Proposition (UVP): Your UVP is what makes your business stand out from the rest. What can you offer that no other business can? This could be anything from unique products or services, superior user experience, or innovative use of the metaverse technology. 

  • Establish a Strong Brand Identity: In the metaverse, brand identity is as much about aesthetics as it is about values and mission. Your virtual presence should reflect your brand's identity in its design, interactivity, and the experiences it offers. 

  • Utilize AR and VR Technologies: Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are central to the metaverse. By using these technologies, you can create immersive experiences for your customers that can't be replicated in the physical world. 

  • Create Engaging Content and Experiences: The metaverse is all about engagement. Consider how you can create content and experiences that draw users in and encourage them to interact with your business. This could be through games, interactive product demonstrations, virtual events, etc. 

  • Partner with Other Businesses: The metaverse offers opportunities for collaboration that don't exist in the physical world. By partnering with other businesses, you can create shared experiences that benefit both parties. 

  • Stay Current with Metaverse Trends: The metaverse is a rapidly evolving space. Stay updated with the latest developments and trends in technology, user behavior, and legal frameworks. 

  • Optimize for Search and Discovery: Just like with websites and apps, your metaverse presence needs to be optimized for search and discovery. This involves using keywords, tags, and descriptions that align with what your target audience is likely to be looking for. 

  • Invest in Security and Privacy: In the metaverse, issues around data security and privacy are even more critical. Make sure you invest in robust security measures and respect user privacy to build trust with your customers. 

  • Track and Analyze Performance Metrics: Finally, it's crucial to monitor how your business is performing in the metaverse. This will help you understand what's working and what isn't, and allow you to make data-driven decisions about how to improve.
